Chairman, Chief Executive Officer & President of Blackboard
Bill Ballhaus is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Blackboard. Prior to joining Blackboard in 2016, Bill was President and CEO of SRA International, where he fostered a culture of innovation that emphasized anticipating customer needs. He was responsible for enhancing the company’s portfolio in cybersecurity, cloud computing, mobilization, agile system development, ERP and data analytics.
Previously, Bill was President and CEO of DynCorp International, a global government services provider. He has also held senior leadership positions at BAE Systems and Boeing, leading their global technology businesses.
Bill has been recognized with numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career. In 2009, he was named among Forbes’ most Powerful CEOs 40 and Under, as well as Forbes’ 21 Youngest CEOs at the Nation’s Biggest Companies. He also ranked #26 on Ethisphere’s list of 100 Most Influential in Business Ethics. In 2015, he was named to Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 list of the most influential leaders in government contracting. In 2016, he was awarded the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Medal by UC Davis for his outstanding professional achievements and distinguished service to the engineering community. Most recently, Bill was named one of the Top 50 SaaS CEOs of 2017 by The SaaS Report. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and currently serves on the UCLA Anderson School of Management Board of Advisors and the Great Meadow Foundation Board of Directors.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Davis. He earned a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University, as well as a Master of Business Administration from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA.

Lee Blakemore is Chief Client Officer and President of Global Markets. In this joint role, he acts as a champion of Blackboard’s clients, representing the needs of faculty, students, school administrators, IT professionals, instructional designers and professional learners who have partnered with or use Blackboard products and solutions. He also leads Blackboard’s global go-to-market and business operations organization. By leveraging the company’s broad portfolio of capabilities and market expertise, Lee and his team enable institutions and organizations of all types to solve their most complex challenges by putting learners and world-class technology solutions at the heart of everything they do.
Previously, Lee served as President of Client Operations and Success, where he led the company’s transformation to a SaaS delivery model and its efforts to deliver a world-class experience for its clients, overseeing client delivery, management of the Blackboard cloud platform and support functions across the company. He also served as President of Blackboard International, where he was responsible for sales, marketing and operations to support the company’s global growth outside the United States and Canada.
Prior to joining Blackboard in 2015, Lee served as the SVP of Global Sales and Marketing at the cloud services company Velocity Technology Solution, where he was responsible for all field operations including sales, offering management, marketing and customer relations. Prior to joining Velocity, Lee spent nine years at IBM where he held various global leadership positions including Vice President of the Smarter Infrastructure software business and Director of European Sales for the Application on Demand business where he helped launch that business’s European operations. Prior to IBM, Lee held various leadership positions in the software industry, the most recent being at Corio, a cloud-based ERP solution acquired by IBM.
Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Westminster College.
